Prize Money Rules

  1. Prize Money is applicable only for the Marathon and Half Marathon race categories as per the rules given here under.

  2. MARATHON RACE CATEGORY:

    • Only confirmed marathon runners starting their race at 7.25 a.m. will be entitled to be considered for prize money given in Chart A[I] and A[II] of prize money structure, if falling within the prize money winning positions.
    • Any runner (falling under 2(a) above), Indian or international, who is one of the top overall marathon finishers, will be entitled to prize money stated in Chart A[I]. The first 5 Indian marathon finishers who do not finish in the top overall marathon finishers, will be entitled to prize money in Chart A[II]. However, where an Indian runner finishes as one of the top overall marathon finishers, he/she will receive prize money stated either in Chart A[I] or Chart A[II], whichever is HIGHER. In the instance of an Indian runner availing of the higher prize money amount from Chart A[II], there will be NO CHANGE in the overall finishing positions in Chart A[I], the overall finishing positions remain the same.
    • Only confirmed marathon runners falling within the age groups given below, and starting their race at 5.40 a.m. will be entitled to be considered for prize money in Chart A[III], A[IV], A[V] and A[VI] respectively of the prize money structure.

    • Marathon runners confirmed as Elite runners must start their run at 7.25 a.m.
    • Marathon runners confirmed in the veteran/senior veteran/super veteran age categories must start their race at 5.40 a.m. In case they start their race at 7.25 a.m., they forego their rankings and prize money entitlement under the respective age categories.
    • An open age category marathon runner or a veteran/senior veteran/super veteran category runner starting his/her race at 7.25 a.m. will forego his/her ranking and prize money entitlement under the respective age category/open age category.
    • Similarly an Elite marathon runner starting his/her race at 5.40 a.m., will forego his/her ranking and prize money entitlement under the overall finishers and top Indian finishers prize money category.
    • The cut-off of finish times for prize money entitlement for marathon race category is 6 hours from start time.
    • Finish positions of the marathon overall and top Indian finishers for prize money entitlement [Chart A(I) and Chart A(II)] will be based on gun time alone.
    • Finish positions of the open age/veteran/senior veteran/super veteran finishers for prize money entitlement [Chart A(III), Chart A(IV), Chart A(V) and Chart A(VI)] will be based on respective net finish times only

  3. Half MARATHON RACE CATEGORY:

    • Only those Half Marathon runners, who finish within 3 hours from the start time and who fall within the finish positions as indicated in the Prize Money Structure, will be entitled to prize money in their respective categories.
    • Finish positions of the half marathon overall category for prize money entitlement will be based on the gun time alone.
    • Finish positions of the half marathon Veteran Finishers, Senior Veteran Finishers and Super Veteran Finishers for prize money entitlement shall be based on respective net finish times only.
    • In case a Half Marathon Veteran finishers falls within the Half Marathon Overall finish positions based on his/her net time, he/she will retain the 1st position of the relevant age category. However, prize money will be given whichever is higher.
  4. Runners crossing the start line after the timings given below will not be entitled to rankings or prize money –
    • Marathon runners starting the race at 7.25 a.m. – crossing the start line after 7.30 a.m.
    • Marathon runners starting their race at 5.40 a.m. – crossing the start line after 6 a.m.
    • Half Marathon runners – crossing start line after 6.45 a.m.
  5. In addition to the above, entitlement to finish positions and Prize Money winnings are subject to–
    • Chip timing captured across all timing points on the course, including at the start and finish mats,
    • Physical verification by technical officials, and
    • Dope test results (applicable only for the marathon top overall and top Indian marathon finishers).
  6. Runners found to have interchanged their timing chip and/or their running number bib with others, will be disqualified from the competition. Such runners shall not be entitled to any timing or prize money (where applicable).
  7. Prize winners declared must submit a certified true copy of their passport/election card, and PAN Card for disbursement of prize money.
  8. Winners from India will receive prize money equivalent in Indian Rupees calculated at the applicable exchange rate.
  9. Prize Money winnings are subject to Indian Income Tax Rules as applicable and taxes, if any, would be borne by the winner.
  10. Protests and Appeals:

    A] Only with respect to results of Marathon Elite (overall and Indian) finish positions and Half Marathon Overall finish positions (elite races):

    • The athlete and/or his/her representative can appeal to the Race Referee in relation to the official race results declared, in writing, within 30 minutes of the official announcement of the results on race day, of relevant race category. Results will be put up at the men elite athlete tent at the Marathi Patrakar Sangh, Mahapalika Marg, Mumbai.
    • The protest letter needs to be submitted at the Elite Result Appeals Desk outside the men elite athlete tent along with a Protest Fee of Rs 1,000.
    • Where the Race Referee makes a decision, the athlete and/or the representative have the right to appeal to the Jury of Appeal. The Jury of Appeal will consist of the Race Director, the Technical Delegate and a representative of AFI. Any appeal must be made at the Elite Result Appeals Desk within 30 minutes –
      • of the official announcement of the amended result which has been arrived at from the decision by the Referee, or
      • of informing the person lodging the protest that the results will not be amended.
    • The Jury of Appeal shall deliver its decision within 7 working days of filing the appeal. The decision of the Jury of Appeal shall be final and there shall be no further right of appeal.
    • Where the protest is decided in the favour of the complainant, the Protest Fee will be refunded in full to such complainant within one-week of the decision. Where the protest is decided against the complainant, such Protest Fee will be forfeited in full.
    • The Protests and Appeals for the elite races will be guided by rules given in this document, and the IAAF Competition Rules in force on race day (15th Jan, 2012).

    B] Only with respect to results of Marathon open category, and Marathon and Half Marathon Age Category finish positions:

    • Any confirmed marathon or half marathon runner of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2012, can lodge a protest in relation to the official race results in relation to age category finish positions declared after the race.
    • The Protest Letter, along with a demand draft payable at Mumbai, of Rs 1,000 in favour of "Procam International Ltd." (Protest Fee) must be sent to the following address: Race Referee, Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2011, C/o Procam International Ltd., 14, St. James Court, Marine Drive, Mumbai 400 020, India.
    • Only the protest letters received on or before Wednesday, 18th January 2012, will be entertained.
    • A panel comprising of Race Referee, Race Director and Technical Delegate, shall deliberate, verify and deliver its decision on the Protest within 7 working days of receiving the Protest Letter.
    • Where the protest is decided in the favour of the complainant, the Protest Fee will be refunded to such complainant, without any deductions, within one-week of the decision. Where the protest is decided against the complainant, such Protest Fee will be forfeited in full.
    • Decision of the jury shall be final and binding on all.
