Prize Money Rules

Prize Money is applicable only for the World 10K and the Nation's Challenge categories as per the rules given here under.

  • World 10K:
    • Any runner, Indian or International, who is one of the top overall World 10K finishers, will be entitled to prize money stated in Chart A. The first 5 Indian World 10K finishers, who do not finish in the top overall World 10K finishers, will be entitled to prize money in Chart B. However, where an Indian runner finishes as one of the top overall World 10K finishers, he/she will receive prize money stated either in Chart A or Chart B, whichever is HIGHER. In the instance of an Indian runner availing of the higher prize money amount from Chart B, there will be NO CHANGE in the overall finishing positions in Chart A, the overall finishing positions remain the same.
    • The World 10K runners must have crossed the official finish line within the following time from their respective race start times in order to be entitled to be featured in the top finish positions as indicated in the prize money structure -
      • Elite Men - 35 minutes
      • Elite Women - 40 minutes
    • Finish positions will be determined on the gun finish timings of athletes participating in the World 10K race category.
    • In addition to the above, entitlement to finish positions and Prize Money winnings are subject to-
      • Chip timing captured across all timing points on the course, including at the start and finish mats, and
      • Dope test results.
  • Nation's Challenge:
    • Where a confirmed team member fails to race on the race day or fails to wear his/her timing chip or interchanges his/her running number/chip with another runner, such team, and the team member, shall be disqualified from the Nation's Challenge competition. However, the balance team members of such a team may compete in their individual capacities for the prize money winning positions mentioned in Chart A or Chart B.
    • The finish positions of teams participating in the Nation's Challenge will be based on the aggregate run finish times of its respective team members. The team with the fastest aggregate run finish time will be declared as the winning Nation's Challenge team.
    • In addition to the above, entitlement to finish positions and Prize Money winnings are subject to chip timing of individual team runners' being captured across all timing points on the course, including the start and finish mats.
    • Athletes participating in the Nation's Challenge shall be entitled to prize money in Chart A or Chart B, if falling within the top respective individual finish positions.
    • Post verification, prize money of each winning team will be divided equally and remitted directly in the names of its team members.
  • Athletes found to have interchanged their timing chip and/or their running number bib with others, shall be liable to be disqualified from the competition. Such athletes shall not be entitled to any timing and prize money.
  • Prize winners declared must submit a certified true copy of their passport/election card, and PAN Card for disbursement of prize money.
  • Winners from India will receive prize money equivalent in Indian Rupees calculated at the applicable exchange rate.
  • Prize Money winnings are subject to Indian Income Tax Rules as applicable and taxes, if any, would be borne by the winner.
  • Protests and Appeals with respect to World 10K and Nation's Challenge results:
    • The athlete can appeal to the Race Referee in relation to the official race results declared, in writing, within 30 minutes of the official announcement of the results on race day, of relevant race category. Results will be put up outside the campus office, Gate No. 3, Kanteerava Stadium.
    • The protest letter needs to be submitted at the Elite Result Appeals Desk outside the campus office, Gate No. 3, Kanteerava Stadium along with a Protest Fee of INR 1,000.
    • Where the Race Referee makes a decision, the athlete and/or the representative have the right to appeal to the Jury of Appeal. An appeal to the Jury of Appeal must be made at the Elite Result Appeals Desk within 30 minutes - (i) of the official announcement of the amended result which has been arrived at from the decision by the Referee, or (ii) of informing the person lodging the protest that the results will not be amended.
    • The decision of the Jury of Appeal shall be final and there shall be no further right of appeal.
    • Where the protest is decided in the favour of the complainant, the Protest Fee will be refunded in full to such complainant within one-week of the decision. Where the protest is decided against the complainant, such Protest Fee will be forfeited in full.
    • The Protests and Appeals for the elite races will be guided by rules given in this document, and the IAAF Competition Rules in force on race day (27th May 2012).
